ABOUT ME
Hi my name is Ronnell. And for the people who know me, they know that I love the Philippines very much and I am not really one who rants and complains to high heavens about what is happening to our country and does nothing about it.

Yet, after seeing how events in our nation had transpired the past years and after talking to some friends, I feel the urge to share with you my own thoughts and feelings here.

PLDT Cebu Subscribers Experience

That was fast! I mean NOT the connection but the installation. I applied for myDSL plan 990 in Cebu PLDT Jones branch Wednesday afternoon. After 2 days, I got my Phone Line connected and finally, I already had my internet by Tuesday morning. Not bad for a span of 4 business days installation, right?

Yeah! But did you know that they are just hiring contractors to do the job in installing the phone and internet? It's actually a great endeavor for both sides. The more lines they connect per day, the more they get incentives (I guess!). Which of course produced a nice feedback outcometo the Company itself.

As mentioned, I subscribed for PLDT myDSL plan 990 [DSL+Landline+Free installation] at 384kbps speed. Not bad if you're not a hard core online gamer. Did a PLDT's speed tester and I obtain an express 362 kbps D/L speed but a sluggish 188 kbps U/L speed. WOW?

Not so fast! What you see on the image above is NOT what you're going to get! I performed many download test like ftp, mirc, http, limewire, youtube.. etc and I came up to a max download speed of 70kbps only. Oh well, what else do you expect from a PLDT plan 990 package. hihi..

By the way, if you happen to have a previous dial up connection on your vista OS, I suggest you remove all your Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings in your Internet Properties Connection or it will cause you an annoying pop-up asking for your username and password. The PLDT's ZyXel P-600 modem which comes with the package doesn't require any of these.

Now if you're trying to set-up 2 or more PC's or WI-FI enabled router, here's my simple guide. (It depends on what router you're using but this should work for most routers out there as well)

Make sure your PC is connected to the ZyXeL modem first then proceed below.

1. Access the web control panel of your ZyXeL modem by typing in the IP address of your modem in a browser. (i.e. http://192.168.1.1)

2. Login to the web control panel (default username/password: admin/1234) of the modem and go to the WAN settings.

3. Change the settings to the following and save: * Routing mode: Bridge * Encapsulation: RFC 1483 * Multiplex: LLC

4. Disconnect the modem from your PC and connect it to the WAN/Internet port of your wireless router (refer to the manual of your wireless router to locate the Internet/WAN port).

5. Connect your PC to one of the ports in your wireless router. Your setup should look something like this now: DSL -> ZyXeL modem -> Wi-Fi Router -> PC

6. Now you need to access the web control panel of your wireless router the same way you accessed the ZyXeL modem. With mine, the default ip address of the router was 192.168.1.1 and the default username/password is <blank>/admin (just leave the username blank).

7. Once you’re in the control panel, set the connection protocol to PPPoE/PPPoA and input the username and password of your DSL account. Your username should be in this format: xxxxx@pldt. Call PLDT if you don’t know your username and password.

8. Now here’s the most important part. Make sure you change the IP address of your wireless router so that it will not be the same with your ZyXeL modem and make sure they’re in the same network. (i.e. your ZyXeL modem’s IP is 192.168.1.1, change your wireless router’s IP to 192.168.1.2)

9. Save the changes you’ve made.

10. Now go to the Wireless settings of your wireless router and enable it. Provide any necessary information needed like SSID and such. Make sure to turn on the security for your Wi-Fi by using either WPA or WEP to avoid someone hacking into your router.

11. Save the changes and you should be ready to surf wirelessly anywhere as far as the router’s signal can take you. ^^

In case you experience other technical problems on your connection, you may call PLDT Cebu hotlines: 172 for DSL Concerns & 173 for Phone issues. Not sure though if these number also applies within other regions.

im happy with my pldt dsl, got my 990 plan within 5 days! speed peaks at 600Kbps on off peak hours. im from lapulapu city.

not a good speed though when you're streaming hi-def video online at youtube but the connection is stable, i have not experienced any latency issues or network outages since last month.

yet i guess i have to upgrade to 1mbps...im an excited happy camper! ;p

ronnell says:

Agree! PLDT's connection is stable. And Plan 990 is definitely not for Online video streaming. However, you can always watch youtube one at a time.

Cheers!

Paul says:

Anyone already won to this?

"The PLDT myDSL group launched last week a new promo that gives its new and existing DSL subscribers a chance to win one of eight brand new laptops with free two-month myDSL subscription through weekly draws."

And by the way, Cebu is considered number one in terms of new PLDT myDSL subscribers...

AJ from Cebu says:

I don't know about you guys but I'm having problems with my connection right now. I'm not too sure if I have the 990 plan but, almost every 3 minutes I get disconnected for a short time, so sometimes if im loading a youtube vid it stops and i have to refresh the page.

I can't play a decent DotA game in garena for longer than 10 minutes anymore. My connection was great the first week or so....

LM says:

Hi Paul, what was that promo? was that promo endorsed by Nikki Taylor?

If it is, I think I am one of the winners,I saw my name flashed on the pldt dsl commercial last May 14,09 in the morning.

I called their customer service hotline and inquired about it, guess what!!!! they never knew about that promo. All they knew is their latest promo which is the ultra broadband blow out.

Howcome??? And I still have not received my billing statement which should have been due last May 01.Whatta srvc!!!!!!

James says:

would you tell me guys what's the requirements to apply MY PLDT DSL PLAN 990?? thanks...

Ronnell says:

Proof of Billing + Identification cards + Money (1k for advance).
But this differ from time to time hence it's a promo.

No problem so far with my PLDT DSL 990. Dota all day and night, No lag!

Deadbirds says:

what the fu** why is it my PLDT plan 990 dl speed is 20kbps and yours is 70 that's not fair look I already know it depends on the area and all but why am I paying this amount of money if i don't get the right kind of service I'm wasting my money and time to pay this bills and added to that the stress of calling the sh**y customer service hope I could die happy with this

Ronnell says:

Lols. Too bad for you but you can always tell them(PLDT customer service) on your bad connection experience and who knows, you might get a 1 Month rebate like what my cousin did.

I think she called the customer service almost every day.. haha..

Payment of bills is never a hassle to me. They have online payment. Credit cards and other banking institution like BPI will do.

JV says:

what is the IP of the PLDT zyxel modem P-600?
i have tried 192.168.1.1 but didn't work..

Ronnell says:

hmm.. this is wierd. I tried accessing my PLDT modem but I cant seem to connect to it. I am getting an impression that PLDT guys are changing it's IP randomly.

With so many cheap router nowadays, I think this is their countermeasures.

Anyway, I would suggest resetting your PLDT modem P-600 Series. And it should be back to it's default factory settings to 192.168.1.1 admin/1234.

Vanz says:

hey i have my connection mmmm.... maybe its 5 months now. But I still dont get the billing. And until now I wasn't able to pay from the time it was connected. What should I do??

Ronnell says:

@Vanz: Were you not disconnected by PLDT all these time? If I were you, just let it be... FREE! FREE! FREE! hehe ..

(Just prepare for a lump sum though in case PLDT bills you.)

Noreen says:

finally, i got my first pldt bill last week.  nothing's for free nowadays ronnell... 4 months of accumulated charges - everything in one bill LOL! i paid a huge sum indeed! =)

Justin says:

can i ask?

what is the requirements for dsl connection???

Kitz says:

why is it my pldt dsl connection isn't stable now... it will disconnect atleast 6 times a day?

Ronnell says:

@Noreen: 'told you it will be accumulated.. hehe.
@Justin: you only need a proof of billing in applying PLDT DSL connection.
@kitz: please call PLDT technical. I've had the same problem before.
Kulitin mo para mabilis action nila.. Everyday ako tumatawag sa kanila!
