XOOM Philippines Scam?
A week ago, a friend from DUBAI wanted to send money to someone in the Philippines. He was very skeptical in using XOOM Online Services because it was a very large amount. But then, the money was needed right away for the operation of his mother. He didn’t have PAYPAL and they don’t have time to open a bank account in the Philippines. In short, he was left with no choice but to use XOOM Global Money Transfer.
He admitted that his judgment during that time was blurred and he wasn’t thinking about SCAMS about XOOM or whatever Online Scams out there. Anyway, he did, without delay, fund the money transfer using his credit card. Below is the snapshot during his transaction.
By the way, the beneficiaries can receive money through Bank deposit to Any Bank (Partner banks receive the money more quickly within a few hours), cash pickup or home delivery.
Bank Deposit
Xoom users can send money to ANY bank account in US dollars or Philippine Pesos, usually within the same banking day sent. Deposits are even faster with partners banks BPI, Equitable PCI (now acquired by BDO) and Metrobank.
Cash Pickup
Xoom.com is convenient for OFWs who are Internet connected but whose relatives still rely on traditional means of receiving remittances (door to door or cash pickup).
This is good considering that Xoom has developed their network of 1,800+ pick-up locations including 400 BDO-EPCI branches, 280 BDO On-Site branches, SM Forex counters at 30 SM Malls, 1136 Cebuana Lhuillier locations and 60 One Network Bank branches. The network is not (yet) as big as the Western Union network, but it is rather wide.
Home Delivery
Home Delivery to Metro Manila is 1~2 days from the time the remittance is sent. Or, 2~3 days to provinces outside of Metro Manila. Delivery is done through Express Padala - a subsidiary of BDO-EPCI.
In his case, he opt to send it thru Cash Pick-up…
After a few hours of waiting, his relatives went to directly to one of the branches of Cebuana LHuiller to collect the payment sent but was totally bolt from the blue when the Cashier told them that they cannot process the said transaction and even told them that they got an incorrect XOOM Tracking Number! They were all nervous and were more anxious when they heard about XOOM SCAM in the Philippines.
This can’t be! - His father shouted.
His father called my friend in DUBAI and validated the XOOM Tracking Number he gave. Everything was accurate based on the email sent by XOOM after the Funding his Transfer.
What else could have gone wrong? asked his suspicious father to Cashier.
At that moment, the cashier from Cebuana Lhuiller verifies again the said XOOM Tracking Number and realized it was really a valid number and it was just a new-fangled series of XOOM tracking digits.
Yet, they still didn’t get the money from that Cebuana Lhuiller branch because they don’t have adequate cash as of that moment. Good thing XOOM Global Money Transfer is in partner with BDO-EPCI Branches where there is a boundless fund, I guess.
To cut a long story short, XOOM Money Transfer in the Philippines is NOT a SCAM. Just try to pick-up your payment directly in banks if it involves large denomination.
At present, my friend is blissful that his Mother undergone a successful surgery and now regularly sent money thru XOOM Philippines. Send money now! Click HERE.

I do not see why you have to include the word "scam" - I have never heard bad reports about Xoom so you are just casting doubt in people\'s minds now - especially if they did not read your story and just saw the headline

I felt compelled to write after reading all this negative comments regarding xoom. I've been a customer of Western Union until I switched to Xoom since last year due to lower fees, half less than WU. I haven't had any problem with them, except once when their system was down. But I was accommodated immediately by their customer service by processing a refund back to my account and was given a promo code for free service charge.
It looks like those who complained don't know the difference between the checking acct. and credit card's clearing time.

Xoom is not reliable and should not be trusted to resolve complaints. I sent pera via xoom to a relative in the Phillipines while still online with my relative, someone at the Cebuana Lhuillier in Angles City, marked the transfer as completed. My relative was later told that she had already picked up the pera. I called Xoom and they said the matter would be resolved in 48 hours. This was not the case. I called several more times, and asked the the transaction be cancelled. Xoom claims that they have to check with Cebuana Lhuillier the agent to verify again and again. I asked them to consider that the pera may have been in fact stolen from inside. They would not provide me with any information or email me the details of the investigation, but keep telling me they have to check with Cebuana Lhuillier. If a thief stole money and you ask a theif if they stole money they will tell you they did not steal money. Xoom has no procedure to resolve other than to tell me they are investigating. Xoom is not reliable and can not be trusted as secure.
Do not use Xoom until you are sure they will check ID and have a process for resolution of identity theft

Do you really think those who experienced the canceling part would use their service again? " THIS ADDRESSED TO XOOM BTW"

I have never had a problem with XOOM and use it extensively. I remit money to over 10 recipients monthly for over 3 1/2 years now and it has been flawless and quite affordable over the ridiculous costs of a Western Union transfer.
I had so many screw-ups with Western Union, including not properly being credited my just "Rewards". I sent one recipient just $8 dollars who was desperate one time by Western Union and at the time, it cost me $15 to send just $8 measly dollars! That's ABSURD!!! I kissed off Western Union long ago and I'm glad I did!
If you don't like XOOM then try YesPinoy.com but that site issues a "Smart Card" to each recipient and they are not too good at all about sending new cards when the old ones expire. XOOM is no hassles at all for me and so quick and easy to sign people up!

Xoom sucks!!! Its my first time sending money through here and I got really dissapointed. I tried this because they have lower fee but my family in p.i had lots of drama before they get the money. They have bad customer service! The person who assisted my brother in M. Lhuillier Kalentong was slow and a stuck up b!$ch!
I would rather pay more and get the service like I always get in Western Union.
Well, Xoom, if you want your bussiness to get going, you should learn to value customers and give the right service.

The people that are probably writing the positive comments are people who work for Xoom. Truth be told, many people got screwed over either losing money, or their relatives didn't get it, and because of that money needed for operations weren't acquired.
Good job Xoom, keep up the "great" customer service. Actually, just don't use Xoom, and you need not worry about their customer service.

I'd like to add my opinion here.
Xoom was fine until yesterday. I receive two e-mail notifications that money was already delivered to me but I received none. When I called their customer service support here, I was made to wait then the phone would go busy.
When I finally got to speak to someone, after I told her about the fact that I didn't get any money, the phone went busy again. I told the one who sent me money never to use that service again.
Madr says:

@Julio: The people that are probably writing the positive comments are people who work for Xoom.
What is your logical basis for that conclusion when you don't even know the people posting here.
I've used Xoom twice already and just for small amounts (hundreds, not thousands as cash gifts to relatives). I used PayPal for one transaction and then my bank account for the next (because the fee was lower for bank accounts). Both times, the money was remitted directly to BPI.
It seems to me, from reading the post and comments here, that the problem was with the receiving agency - in this case, Cebuana Lhuiller. Isn't that a pawnshop that expanded its services to include other related money services? Why would you let a pawnshop receive your money versus banks? I would think that bank employees are more highly trained than pawnshop employees and that a nationwide bank is more trustworthy and capable than a pawnshop.

I just started using Xoom after all the hassles on WU's website recently. Anybody here that loves WU has obviously never used their website. I transfer money to a PI bank account every month.
Every month, it was a new hassle. Change my username, change my password, reenter the same info I've reentered dozens of times already. But, they don't tell you you need to do this. You go to login and it says your password or username is incorrect, but, in reality you're already logged in and if you click on "Forgot my password" it tells you to change your password. You only get error codes and have to call to find out WTF they want you to do.
After going through this every month for the last few months, I finally got an error yesterday that I could no longer transfer money to PI bank accounts. Fortunately, I already had Customer Service on the line since once again, this POS wouldn't let me log in. She told me sometimes countries change the rules and WU can't transfer to PI banks anymore. BS, after wasting 45 minutes on WU, I went to Xoom, setup an account, and transferred to the bank in about 4 minutes.

I've been using Xoom every since I came here in the US in 2007. I had no issues. Since my recipients are all in the Philippines, I go straight to Xoom Philippines, processing seems to be faster there I think.
It takes longer only if you are using a checking account or credit/debit card for the first time. Otherwise, it always takes less than 20 minutes in my case.

NEVER EVER USE XOOM.. ITS A SCAM!
It happened to me recently, June 29, 2009. Somebody use my account and transfer money to MEXICO for a total of $4,500. The person or whoever did it, copied my home address in the Philippines and add, Arboledas Mexico. The phone number is same as the # in my home country but placed a mexican area code. The reason why I found it? When I tried logging in to my xoom account and I could not! They changed my password too. when I called customer service trying to reset my password, I never received the reset password on my email. I have to beg them to send it to my husband's email add so that I will know what happened because they will not tell me what's going on. I did'nt received any email alerts from them regarding those transactions. I'M using xoom for about a year w/out problems. I usually send money to the Philippines almost every month because of easy accessibility and cheap rates.
I went to my bank and reported it right away, xoom is using ACH banking, although your checking is 0, they can take money form your savings too. xoom is not secured. never ever put your bank account information because they gonna steal your money. The Fraud specialist is also as rude and nasty when you try to ask what happened and why this happened. Transfer your inquiries from one person to another person.
LYZE SC, USA
This case is still under investigation but my bank assured me that they gonna give my money back but don't know when..

I strongly agree that XOOM has the WORST SERVICE. they will cancel your transactions without giving any reasons and when you email them they will ask you some documents OR identification.
upon giving them the documents, they will ask another document. i gave them copies of my residence permit here in saudi arabia, copy of my bank statement here, copy of my phil. SSS ID and a copy of my bank statement in BPI where the money is supppose to be deposited.
i made 3 transactions on july 8. when they i received email stating that my transactions is canceled, i thought the problem is with my credit card but after i verified with the bank here in KSA, there were charges already from xoom corporation. to date, there is no money deposited in my BPI account. XOOM SUCKS!!!! most of the time the agents reply seems annoying!!! F%*K THEM!!!

I use LBC coz of the points I earned for my libre box,but if i'm lazy to drive 15 miles, I go to money grams and my family appreciate it coz they don't have to go to olongapo which is 1 hr drive to pick up my money, with money gram they just go to Cebuana Lhuillier which is a walking distance...so good luck in trusting a website that a lot of scams going on...just use LBC or Money gram......

Hey guy check this out I found this on a site about Money Scams and it was about Xoom so I thought I post it here since I have used Xoom myself once and had a very bad experience.
Take note, I did not write this. This is a copy and paste from another website:
Hi my Name is Jeremiah and I thought all of you deserve to know a shocking truth about Xoom!
My best friend works for Xoom and he told me that they have a very high customer complaint rate and he is surprised how they are still in business. He says that so many people who send money thru their system have lost their money or it being missing on the receiving end by the receiving agencies and there are times it gets stolen and the agencies just report it as if it were picked up by the client who was suppose to receive the money so the receiver never gets the money. He also says that they have so many complaints that they can’t look into every complaint and many times the customer will just eventually give up trying.
He also said that their system is not very reliable sometimes especially when there are so many simultaneous transactions hitting their servers all at once and the system is needed for an upgrade badly.
He even told me that there was an incident a while back where over 100 plus customers transactions went thru and all the data was lost and they had to have each customer fax in their statements and other personal verifications to verify that they did send x amount of money.
Now for the icing in the cake and this is a hard one to believe but very true fact. Xoom hires a team to go and post good things on forums and different sites about their services. These employees pretend to be real customers but in fact it all a big scam they are nothing but employees trying to make Xoom look credible because they are losing so many customers by all the negative posts by the xoom users who have been a victim and lost money to their instable system. I was shocked and found this hard to believe so he invited me to a barkada outing one night and he actually introduced me to 3 of the posters of Xoom and sure enough it was true. These posters told me they even advice their own families to stick to Western Union or other services for sending money.
So anyone uses Xoom SATY AWAY! My own friend who actually works their said you can never convince him to use their system. He even commented that Western Union and Bank wires are the only real safe solutions.
Sincerely,
Jeremiah C.

I refused , then they canceled the transaction and to date have still not return the funds to my account this was 5 days ago.
I am not a new customer to them, I have done around 10 transactions with them in the last 5 months, each time I have had similar problem. Their customer service routes you thru to an operator in the philippines , who has no idea of what is going on. The idea that they have hold of your money for days at a time, without paying the recipient is of great concern.STAY AWAY FROM XOOM :

For 5 days I wasn't able to received the payment, I have ask them to refund it to and refund will take another week and and worse of it the charge that you will be paying will not be included in the refund.
Yes that's true if you called their customer hotline, it keeps on saying that we will escalate or forward your account/transaction to a senior specialist so it would be properly actioned and will say that it will be treated with high priority, but then after calling them two times nothing happend I've waited for another two days, is that they way they are treating a priority account??? So bad for them.
I really thinks that this is 50% scam and 50% true, true as previously I got a successful transactions.
